The teenage years are challenging for both teens and their parents. Teens face many new pressures and may not always react in the healthiest ways to the problems they encounter. Parents are often able to help their teens through the typical struggles of adolescence, such as: peer pressure, relationships, dealing with difficult siblings, and frequent changes in mood, interests, and identity. In some cases, teens may need counseling to help them cope with these or other problems. Parents should know when and how to find a counselor if their teen needs one.

Our team at Waterstone Counseling Center is trained and passionate about helping teens. Some of the common issues and concerns that can be addressed in teen counseling include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Bullying
  • Anger
  • Eating disorders
  • Sexual issues
  • Addictions (alcohol, drugs, pornography, etc.)
  • Coping with abuse (sexual, physical, emotional)
  • Self-harm
  • Social Skills
  • School problems
  • Family issues
  • Blended family concerns (divorce, step-parents, step-siblings, etc.)
  • Coping with divorce
  • Coping with loss

Many teens benefit from the support of a therapeutic relationship with a caring counselor. We ensure that parents will be involved throughout their adolescent’s treatment by offering appropriate updates on their progress. Sometimes our counselors will have some sessions with just the teen and others with the teen and their parent(s). This will be discussed and determined by the counselor, teen, and parents.

If you have any questions or concerns about teen counseling, please feel free to contact us. We would love to talk with you about the benefits of teen counseling, and help you determine if this might be helpful for your teen.
